journal-id-type

Type of Journal Identifier

Definition

Names the type of identifier or the authority that created this particular journal identifier, since there may be several “unique identifiers” provided for an article

Usage

For example, the value “doi” would indicate that the identifier is a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and say nothing about the authority who assigned it. The value “publisher-id” would indicate that the publisher of the article assigned this particular identifier and say nothing about what kind of identifier it is. Similarly, the value “pmc” would indicate that PubMed Central had provided this journal identifier.

Remarks

Although designed to accept any text as its value, the following are suggested journal identifier types for this attribute:

aggregator

doi

Digital Object Identifier for the entire journal, not just for the article (rare)

pmc

Identifier assigned by PubMed Central, for example, the PMC journal abbreviation such as “pnas”, “mbc”, “nar”, “molcellb”, which may be the same as the abbreviated journal.

publisher-id

Identifier assigned by the content publisher, for example, “MOLEC”, “MOLCEL”

nlm-ta

Identifier assigned by the PubMed/Medline, and is typically the journal abbreviation, for example, “Mol Biol Cell”, “Nucleic Acids Res”, which may be the same as the abbreviated journal title
