Conference dates in journal headers are traditionally stored in one of two forms: as a single date (“December 2001”), or as the first day and last day of the conference. Either form can be stored in this element as shown below:

The element <conf-date> may be used in bibliographic references (<element-citation> and <mixed-citation>).
