Type of External Link

Definition

For an external link, for example, to an external document or a database, this attribute identifies the type of external link being used (such as a DOI or the URL of a website) or the specific external source to which the link points, such as the protein databank.

Remarks

Although designed to accept any text as its value, this attribute should be used only if the type of external link is defined below.

This list is slightly overloaded in that two different functions are being performed. The first is to name the specific external source, when it is one of the ones named below. If the external source is not named below, the type of link (DOI, AOI, ftp, uri, etc.) should be named instead.
