NISO Standardization

In late 2009, the NLM began working with the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) to standardize the Tag Suite. On Aug 22, 2012, JATS: Journal Article Tag Suite, version 1.0 (ANSI/NISO Z39.96-2012) was published. NISO JATS version 1.0 is a revision of and is fully backward compatible with the NLM Tag Suite v3.0.

The non-normative documentation for the standard is available through jats.nlm.nih.gov/ and includes the same documentation that has always been provided for the NLM DTDs.

Secretariat

NLM has contracted with Mulberry Technologies, Inc. of Rockville, MD to act as Archiving and Interchange Tag Suite Secretariat. The Secretariat will collect the feedback to be discussed by the Working Group and will maintain the files and documentation.

Working Group

From 2003-2009, the Archiving and Interchange Tag Suite Working Group. advised NLM on recommended changes in and/or additions to the Tag Suite.
