Metadata means, loosely “data about the data”, in this case, information about the article that is not part of the body text or graphics of the article, for example, any unique identifiers, the authorship information, copyrights, publication date, abstract, etc., that serves to identify or describe the article.
Some journal DTDs identify three types of metadata: that concerning the specific article, that concerning the journal, and that concerning the issue of the journal that contains the article. In this DTD, the metadata for the issue and the article has been placed together inside the Article Metadata and the journal metadata into the Journal Metadata element.
